Zambrano Tears Into Wrigley Faithful (ill logik)

So this weekend after Carlos Zambrano has gotten shelled for the again. Zambrano is 0-7 since the begging of August and complained yesterday about being booed by his home fans. He went on to say that this is when the fans should be most behind him because he is struggling.

"I don't accept that the fans were booing at me. I can't understand that. You know, I thought these were the greatest fans in baseball. But they showed me today that they just care about them, and that's not fair, because when you're struggling, you want to feel the support of the fans. No, I don't accept it. I just pointed to my head, and I will remember that because I don't want any bad outings. I know the great moments of my career will come."

I personally don’t boo players that play on my team with a few exceptions. However, it is in fans total right to boo a player. Especially if he just signed a nice big contract and has been in a funk ever since. Especially if he is supposed to be the guaranteed winner in the pitching staff. Especially if you are in a race for a division championship and every single game counts.

When people boo players like Zambrano, they aren’t booing him because he sucks. No, they boo Rex Grossman because he sucks. They boo Zambrano because he is awesome. Because he is one of the best pitchers in the majors and he isn’t playing like it. A month ago he had a legitimate shot at winning 20 games, that idea is way passed.

Carlos, the fans are going to be fans. They will back you when you win. They will get down on you when you lose. Don’t worry about the fans. Just worry about winning a godforsaken game. Please… we need you.
