Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins to Star in Vampire Flick (The Tripwire)

I’m trying to remember another pop culture trend as weirdly “everywhere” as the new collective fascination with vampires has become. It’s Monday, I’m failing. There are Vampire Diaries billboards all over Manhattan right about now, True Blood seems to be killing it and with the news that Bon Iver and Thom Yorke will be lending their voices to the upcoming Twilight sequel’s soundtrack not quite in the rearview mirror, it’s becoming more and more clear that these bigger than the tween-0-sphere. On the heels of that Iver/Yorke/indie rock mindbomb comes news that Henry Rollins, Moby and Iggy Pop will be starring a Suck, a “vampire spoof about “rock ’n’ roll wannabes in search of immortality and a record deal.” In the film, a mullet-fortified Rollins fronts the Winners, a nascent band in the crosshairs of legendary vampire hunter Eddie Van Helsing, played by Malcolm McDowell. There will be twists and turns and liters of blood spillt and industry barbs and probably an overwhelming dose of sexual metaphors. Check the trailer above for a taste. The talent in this band is immeasurable. Jack White on drums. Jack Lawrence on bass. Dean Fertita on guitar. Alison Mosshart on vocals. Amazing.

The record is very good, one of the stronger records of the year, but the live show was way better. Mosshart turned out to be one of the best live performers I have ever seen. My favorite song on the record "Will There Be Enough Water?" also turned out the be the best song at the show. Occasionally White would walk around on the stage and the room would go crazy, especially when he picked up a guitar and sang a quick song with Fertita on organs. This is a must see band that hopefully is not just a one off.

Non Music Related High Point

I went alone and happened to run into an old family friend from when I was a young kid. It was nice being in a room as big as Terminal 5 and not having to stand alone.

A New Supergroup

Upon hearing about this one, my response was simply... "um, holy shit."

Rumors have been floating around the internets for a while now about a collaboration between Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl, and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. Now, a confirmation of sorts has come in the form of a last-minute announcement of a Lollapalooza aftershow to be held August 9th at the Metro, with the three bands’ logos on the flier. Apparently the three musicians call themselves Them Crooked Vultures, and have been working on a studio album for three years. So far nothing has been officially confirmed, but the cryptic post isn’t too hard to decode. (via Consequence of Sound)
